The Norwegian striker conceded an interview where he did not go short on praises for the veteran player.

It has been no secret that Erlling Haaland has always shown his preference to praise some of the biggest names in the world of football, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. But this time, the Norwegian striker has found an inspiration in a man that could have been his teammate if he had not chose to join Manchester City this season.

Speaking in an interview with GQ Hype, the Norwegian ace admitted that one of his role models will be Karim Benzema, who has seemingly reached his prime when most people thought his time at elite football had come to an end.

"Look at Benzema. He's 35-years old and he is playing better than he ever did. In 12 years, when I'm his age, I hope to be a better player than I am now," Haaland stated.

The excerpt of the interview also had Haaland having a look at what happened to Manchester City in last year's UEFA Champions League clash against Los Blancos, which ended in a win for Real Madrid when his current club had a two-goal lead prior to the game's stoppage time.

"Sometimes, like during that Real Madrid game last season, with Rodrygo's goal. It was supposed to be a miss by Asensio, and then it hits Rodrygo on the head and he scores! I think there's a God up there who calls those shots. Is that a matter of trust or is it just in Real Madrid's DNA? I don't know, it did not make any sense to me," Haaland added.

That game, along with his desire to leave his mark in that competition, have seen Haaland promising to try and give the Cityzens their first title in the continental competiton.

"I will do everything in my power to be a key player for Manchester City and win a lot of trophies. My main goal is to see us hopefully winning the Champions League this year," Haaland concluded.
