The Blues might want to re-think their strategy to sign one of Argentina's star players in the past FIFA World Cup.

It was all sunshine and rainbows when it came to Chelsea's intentions to boost their squad with Benfica ace Enzo Fernández...but along came the coach for the Portuguese boss to spoil the fun.

According to reports by Portuguese media outlets, Enzo Fernández's deal with Chelsea was only details away from becoming a reality, but it seems that no one had asked coach Roger Schmidt about it, and this time he has been quite adamant when it came to making his voice heard.

Speaking in a press conference, coach Schmidt ruled out any move involving the player, as he is still keeping him in mind to play for the Eagles until the end of the season, to say the least.

"I already told you about this last week, that is not going to happen. He is our player and he is happy with us. He is part of the team and he is a key member of our squad," Schmidt stated.

Last week, Fernández was blasted by Benfica fans for making an unsanctioned trip to Buenos Aires for New Year's Eve. This was seen as a sign of disrespect towards the team, but the Eagles acted swiftly and suspended the player from their training sessions as a result of that trip.

Now, the midfielder has been allowed to start training and he has been named as a potential starter for both the Taça de Portugal clash against Varzim and for the Primeira Liga tie against Sporting, where Schmidt's team will want to keep or increase their current 12-point gap against the Lions at the top of the standings.
