The Rojiblancos defender and Blaugrana attacker began wrestling it out on the pitch in full sight of the referee during stoppage time of Barcelona's 1-0 victory.

Atletico and Barcelona faced off on Sunday in a thoroughly entertaining yet heated La Liga encounter. The Catalan giants entered this fixture level on points with Real Madrid but with the opportunity of pulling three points clear while Simeone's men needed a victory in order to keep their title hopes alive.

As a result, both sets of players left everything on the pitch. Unfortunately for Los Rojiblancos, it was Xavi's men who came away with the three points, beating the Madrid heavyweights 1-0 thanks to a well-worked Ousmane Dembele goal.

However, while every player gave it their all, two men showed a bit too much on the pitch and were subsequently sent off. They were Stefan Savic and Ferran Torres.

The Montenegrin defender started the game while the Spanish attacker came on as a sub just before the hour mark. Despite this, the pair managed to get into an unusual scrap in stoppage time and were shown straight red as a result. This came after a Barcelona attack broke down, with Savic putting in a decisive tackle on Torres. However, while the play continued, the two outrageously refused to carry on with the game and instead began wrestling on the pitch in full sight of the referee.

Despite witnessing the altercation, the match official turned his back in order to allow Atletico to counter the visitors. However, once that attack led to nothing, he halted play, returned to the on-pitch scrap, and gave both men their marching orders.

While the two will be suspended for a number of games, fans could not help but see the humor in this incident. Given that it was not a violent altercation, the scuffle sparked a number of jokes and memes on social media. Check out this moment in the clip below.

The sending-off did not affect the game as the match ended 1-0 in Barcelona's favor. That result saw the Catalan giants move three points clear of second-placed Real Madrid after Los Blancos' 2-1 loss to Villarreal over the weekend. Atletico, meanwhile, are in fifth and are a whopping 14 points behind the league leaders.
