The Special One is still under contract with Roma until 2024, but the Portuguese side are still trying to see if they can lure him away.

What started out as a rumor has turned into a big possibility, as José Mourinho is seemingly open to discuss the offer to coach the Portuguese national team despite being under contract with Roma.

The Portuguese national team is without a skipper since they decided to part ways with Fernando Santos, the only man in history capable of leading them to an international title. Santos won the 2016 UEFA Euro and the 2019 UEFA Nations League as A Selecao's tactician, but his recent performances at the helm have seen the Federation searching for a new approach.

Their search turned out to be pretty quick, as Mourinho was immediately named as the top candidate for the job, and while he is still under contract with Roma, The Special One has already shared his interest in taking the managerial job at a national team.

With those words in mind, FPF exec has agreed to meet with Mourinho on December 26 to discuss the possibility of coaching A Selecao for the 2024 UEFA Euro and beyond.

According to Portuguese media outlet A Bola, the Portuguese Football Federation would be open to satisfy Mourinho's needs to take the job, starting with how he wants to handle the possibility of coaching both Roma and the National Team, something that only coach Guus Hiddink has done in the past.

This option would be the top one on Mou's table, as Roma do not seem to be interested in letting the Special One leave after creating a project with Mourinho as the main piece of the puzzle.

If Mourinho takes the job, one of his main duties will be to decide if Cristiano Ronaldo will have a spot in the team, added to many other complicated moves. Nevertheless, the meeting on December 26 will give fans a good idea if they can still dream about watching Mou working for A Selecao, or if they have to wait a bit more to see it happening.
