Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi delivered a grandstand finish to an incredible final with their respective extra-time performances.

The two best players of the 2022 FIFA World Cup left fans with more to savor by hitting a goal apiece right at the end of Sunday's epic final. Kylian Mbappe stepped up to hand France a life-line in the dying embers of extra-time after Lionel Messi had steered Argentina on course to victory with a goal earlier.

In what looked like an easy ride for Argentina after 80 minutes, France had an injection of optimism thanks to Kylian Mbappe's double. Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria had put the Albiceleste on course to victory by scoring in the first half. However had the goals were canceled out by an Mbappe spot-kick and a brilliant volley, with both goals being 97 seconds apart.

Having forced the game into extra-time as a result, Mbappe sealed one of the best individual performances in a World Cup final by getting a hat-trick. Lionel Messi had scored Argentina's third goal in the 108th minute but a handball by Gonzalo Montiel gave France the opportunity to tie the scoreline with a spot-kick. Mbappe subsequently stepped up to score his second penalty of the game, ending the night as the competition's top goalscorer with seven goals.
