Tite to depart as coach

2022 FIFA World Cup: Brazil coach Tite announces departure after devastating loss

December 9, 2022 By Michelle Bonsu
The Brazilian manager becomes yet another coach to leave his post following his side's heartbreaking loss

On Friday, the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals got underway, with Brazil facing Croatia in the first of four matches to take place over the next 48 hours.

Many had expected the South American giants to win this match, especially considering how they easily cruised past South Korea 4-1, while Croatia needed extra time and penalties to settle their match against Japan.

However, the Vatreni again showed they are not a team to be underestimated, and are rapidly gaining a reputation for being specialists from the spot as they defeated the five-time World Cup winners to end Neymar and his colleagues' dreams of winning what would have their first World Cup since 2002.

The heart-breaking defeat has crushed millions of Brazilian fans all over the world, and now, the team's head coach has made a tough call.

Tite, who has been in charge of Brazil since 2016 and led them to victory in the 2019 Copa America, has decided to stand down from his position with immediate effect.

The 61-year-old former midfielder joins the likes of Spain's Luis Enrique, Mexico's Gerardo Martino, and Belgium's Roberto Martinez to depart their respective posts after their teams failed to reach the next stage of this competition.
