The club's ailing finances have forced Los Culés to look elsewhere for reinforcements despite their initial interest in signing the Norwegian ace.

Barcelona fans were building up their hopes when it came to their chances of signing one of the top strikers in the world, but their recently appointed front office seems to have other plans.

According to Spanish television station TV3, the team's massive debts have left the club in such a situation where they can only afford to tackle one massive signing, Joan Laporta and his team of attorneys have decided that the massive "signing" they will try to land for the club is none other than...Lionel Messi.

The report by TV3 suggests that Laporta is quite confident to keep Messi around, even if he has taken too long to decide if he will stay put at Camp Nou. Even so, the first meetings between Laporta and Messi's agent/father, Jorge Messi, have been described as "successful", giving fans hope for Messi's future at Can Barça.

Barcelona's intentions to boost their squad will not stop regardless of their complicated financial situation. In fact, four players could be shown the exit door if they refuse to reduce their wages. Added to that, Sergio Agüero's free transfer is set to be announced as soon as the season ends.
