The Real Madrid ace has not featured for Les Bleus since 2015 but that could finally come to an end.

Karim Benzema's infamous exile from the French national team is set to come to an end, with several sources claiming the Real Madrid superstar will be called up to the squad by Didier Deschamps for this summer's European Championship.

The Spanish top-flight ace has been banished from the national setup since 2015 over his alleged role in the sex-tape blackmail of Mathieu Valbuena, his then team-mate. Despite this, the 33-year-old is tipped to be named in the 26-man squad list for Euro 2020.

This is a remarkable turn of events, Deschamps is said to be heavily contemplating recalling the goalscoring machine. Several reliable sources have reported this story, including L'Equipe, Le Parisien, Marca, and ESPN.

The player's relationship with the coach and his football federation appeared beyond repair, with Benzema even going as far as accusing Deschamps of "bowing to racists" after his exclusion from Euro 2016. However, after being named France's best player outside of Ligue 1, one could say Karim has made a good case for his inclusion.

The Real Madrid striker has scored an impressive 28 times across La Liga and the Champions League, netting 22 times in Spain and six times in Europe. In comparison, Griezmann, one of Les Bleus' leading attackers, has managed only 14 goals in La Liga and the UCL while Kylian Mbappe, the crown jewel of French football, has managed only six more goals than Karim across Ligue 1 and Europe.

One huge factor behind this decision is the increase of the Euro 2020 squad from 23 players to 26. This has given Deschamps room to add more players to the team that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Olivier Giroud, who has been the coach's preferred no.9 for quite some time, has struggled for playing time this season at Chelsea, which could pave the way for Benzema's route into the starting XI.
