The Dutch attacker has made a clear statement to Manchester United amid an imminent rumored switch.

Reported Manchester United transfer target Cody Gakpo has sent the Premier League club a clear message with his performance thus far at the World Cup. Amid claims of an imminent switch to Old Trafford, the 23-year-old striker added to his impressive goalscoring form by hitting the target in the Netherlands 1-1 draw with Ecuador on Friday.

The PSV star has been a real force for the Dutch national team at World Cup in Qatar, proving his worth by continuing his fine goalscoring form. In the Oranje's opening game against Senegal, the winger hit a late goal to fire his side on course to victory before Davy Klaassen doubled the lead at the death.

Against Ecuador on Friday, Gakpo scored his side's only goal of the night as they shared spoils with the South Americans in a 1-1 draw. With the goal, the Dutchman took his tally for the season to 17 in 31 appearances. He has also managed 16 assists within the same period.

Following the performance against Ecuador, rumors of Gakpo heading to Manchester United in the winter transfer window have resurfaced. With Cristiano Ronaldo exiting the Old Trafford club by mutual consent, they are expected to recruit another forward mid-season.

Back in the summer, United manager Erik ten Hag held talks with the player over a possible move before the Red Devils opted for Antony from Ajax instead. There now a strong indication that the Dutch manager will go after the forward with other top European clubs closely monitoring his development.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, a transfer is imminent as Manchester United are bent on signing Gakpo and, as a result, are ready to "finalise an agreement" for the winger in the coming weeks.
