Ancelotti trolls Luka Modric after big miss

Ancelotti trolls Luka Modric after Croatian star produces “miss of the season” in Cadiz win

November 10, 2022 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The midfield star fluffed his lines and denied his side an early opportunity to cushion their lead against Cadiz on Thursday night.

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has teased Luka Modric for his epic fail in Thursday night's La Liga clash with Cadiz. The 37-year-old midfielder produced one of the worst misses of the season but was spared a rigorous backlash after his side secured a 2-1 win at Santiago Bernabeu.

With most of the players ready to jet off to Qatar for the upcoming World Cup, Madrid returned to this home grounds for the last time before the hiatus following Sunday's defeat to Rayo Vallecano. The game was barely packed with action, but the hosts did enough to secure the maximum three points despite the resilience of their opponents.

The deadlock was broken by Eder Militao who nodded Toni Kroos' cross into the bottom corner in the 39th minute. Following another drab showing in the second half, Real Madrid got their long-awaited second goal. This time, the ball was flicked up for Kroos at the edge of the box and the German hammered it home perfectly, putting it beyond the reach of Ledesma. In the second half, Madrid got its deserved cushion, with Kroos brilliantly hitting a volley home to put his side two goals ahead.

In the 79th-minute, a brilliant counter-attack from Madrid ended with Vinicius unselfishly playing the ball across goal when he was In the position to take a shot. What subsequently ensued was Luka Modric passing the ball wide after having the open goal at his mercy.

A few minutes before the game concluded, Courtois made a big error in his penalty area, fumbling the ball twice before Perez lashed home to make it 2-1. Within the final minutes of the proceeding, many feared that Modric's miss could come back to haunt Los Blancos. However, that could not be although the Croatian was not spared by his manager Carlo Ancelotti.

With Modric having recently been named in his country's squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, the Italian coach hilariously stated that the player was lucky to have been included in the roster for the World Cup before Thursday night's win.

"Modrić's miss? I told him he's lucky that Croatia's squad for the World Cup has already been announced (laughs)," Ancelotti opined.
