Mourinho slams Roma player after Sassuolo draw

WATCH: Mourinho goes on epic rant, accuses Roma player of "betraying" the team after draw vs Sassuolo

November 10, 2022 By Ali M.
The Special One was livid with one player and made sure to tear him apart in the media, stating that he will have to leave this January.

Jose Mourinho is a box-office manager known for his unmissable outbursts as well as his brilliant tactics, and this was on full display for everyone to see after Roma's disappointing result on Wednesday.

The Italian giants took to the field during the midweek action, visiting Sassuolo in an interesting fixture. I Giallorossi entered this game knowing that a win would have taken them up to third in the table temporarily and they would have kept that position heading into the final round before the FIFA World Cup were Lazio to slip up on Thursday against Monza.

Unfortunately, Tammy Abraham and Co. could not get that much-desired victory and were forced to settle for a draw. The aforementioned English striker came on as a substitute to break the deadlock in the 80th minute and looked to have sealed the three points for the visitors. However, the home side equalized only five minutes later, leaving Roma in sixth currently and could even drop to seventh if Juventus get a positive result against Hellas Verona.

Mourinho was understandably upset after the game but not many expected the brutal post-match conference he gave. When speaking about the performance, the Special One hailed all but one of the 16 players that featured on that day (the 11 starters and five substitutes).

The Portuguese boss did not clarify to the media who exactly he was furious with, but nonetheless, Jose held no punches, slamming that unnamed Roma man and accusing him of betraying the team's effort. Mourinho ended his statement with the final blow: he will have to leave the Stadio Olimpico this winter.

"It was a team that wanted to win against a tough opponent, I am sorry that the efforts of the team were betrayed by the attitude of one unprofessional player," the 59-year-old manager told DAZN, as per SPORTbible.

Jose added: "I had 16 players on the field tonight and I liked the attitude of 15 of them. The other player, I won't say who it is, but he betrayed everyone else's effort. In January, he needs to find himself another club."

While the name of that player was never revealed by Mourinho, Italian publication Corriere dello Sport has offered insight as to who he is referring to and it is Dutch defender Rick Karsdorp.

It is easy to see where this conclusion comes from. The 27-year-old was poor on the ball after coming off the bench to replace Zeki Celik and lost track of his man, who assisted Sassuolo's equalizer, in the build-up to that 85th-minute goal.

Karsdorp, who joined from Feyenoord back in 2017, is contracted at the club until June 2025. However, if he was the man Mourinho was referring to, then his days in the Italian capital are numbered.
