Brazil, Serbia, Cameroon and Switzerland will be involved in fierce battles as they all eye qualifications out of Group G.

The No.1-ranked team in the world, Brazil, will come up against tough competition from European qualifying group winners Serbia and Switzerland, as well as semi-finalists of AFCON 2021, Cameroon, in intriguing sets of matches at Qatar 2022. The South Americans are the masses' favorite to progress to the knockout stages but will be challenged all the way by the two European sides, who were able to finish above so-called superior sides in Portugal and Italy to secure their tickets to the Mundial automatically. Tipped to potentially go all the way to the finals of the tournament in Qatar, Neymar and his teammates will be eager to flex their muscles and make a strong statement of intent with good results throughout.

Team descriptions: Who's who in Group G?

Brazil: After another golden generation led by Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, and Roberto Carlos, among others, secured Brazil's last World Cup in 2002, another crop of able personnel is ready and primed to make stake for the country's sixth title in history. On paper, this is overly achievable considering the calibre of talents available in the pool for head coach Tite. Over the years, the Selecao have somehow become underachievers, and with Neymar Jr, Thiago Silva, Casemiro, and a few more others potentially playing in their last World Cup, they will look to have a tournament worth remembering.

Serbia: Serbia may not be a household name as far as European football is concerned but underrating the Eagles could prove costly for whoever is involved. This year, the Serbs have one of the most talented rosters among the European contingents, with the likes of Sergej Millinkovic-Savic, Dusan Vlahovic, Luka Jovic, Dusan Tadic and Filip Kostic and the veteran Aleksandar Mitrovic, all worthy of a call-up. Finishing above Italy in the qualifiers is not an easy feat, and on the global stage, another prospective upset to leap above the likes of Switzerland and Brazil could be on the cards.

Switzerland: Switzerland is set to travel to Qatar for their fifth straight World Cup campaign. The Red and whites will eye another thrilling campaign, having made it out of the group stages on three of their previous four occasions. In their qualification group, they upset Italy, the defending champion of Europe, earning them a spot in the finals. Earlier this year, they also displayed their enormous potential by defeating Spain and Portugal in the UEFA Nations League.

Cameroon: Cameroon's best run at the FIFA World Cup was a quarter-final finish back in 1990 when Roger Milla and his compatriots surprised many and captured the hearts of fans across the globe. In Qatar, there is another opportunity to get close to potentially matching this feat. The Indomitable Lions are set to partake in their eighth World Cup later this year after missing out on the previous edition in Russia. They booked their ticket for Qatar after seeing off Algeria in the qualification play-offs, with Karl Toko Ekambi as his side's hero following a goal in the dying seconds of extra time.

Must-watch games in Group G

Brazil's first game with Serbia should be one to keep an eye on considering the significance. A good result will set the tone for either side to forge ahead in the group which cod features a few twists and turns. Similarly, the Selecao's meeting with Switzerland will be one to keep an eye on, as another entertaining spectacle could potentially unfold. On paper, many expect either of the Serbs and Swiss to join Brazil in the next round, making the meeting between the two another key game to keep an eye on.

Players to keep an eye on

Neymar Jr:

Neymar is the star name on the squad and should play a key role for Brazil if they are to make it far in the competition. It will be the PSG star's time for redemption, taking into account the mishaps he has suffered in the tournament. In the 2010 edition, the then-18-year-old was left out of the squad despite announcing himself to the world with his superior trickery and skill at Santos. When Brazil hosted it in 2014, he missed the 7-1 semi-final humiliation against Germany after sustaining cracked vertebrae in the quarterfinal win over Colombia. In the last edition in Russia, he suffered an ankle injury before Brazil got knockout in the quarterfinal by Belgium.

Dusan Vlahovic (Serbia):

The Juventus star will be among the young stars everyone will be keeping an eye on in Qatar. The 22-year-old is one of the hottest strikers in Europe, who thrives by being physically dominant and possessing fine technique. If Serbia will be able to shock the world in Qatar, Vlahovic will be crucial in the equation playing alongside Aleksandar Mitrovic in the attack.

Eric Choupo-Mouting (Cameroon):

The Bayern Munich star has been in fine goalscoring form and will be hoping to form a formidable attack with Vincent Aboubakar. The Cameroonians are among the less fancied to progress in the group but could pull a surprise by leveraging the attacking prowess of the pair.

Granit Xhaka (Switzerland):

Granit Xhaka will head into the World Cup in Qatar having been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month. The recognition says a lot about how important the midfielder has been for the Gunners in their remarkable charge this season. In Qatar, the 30-year-old will be poised to replicate his form to help the Swiss.

Group G prediction

It is expected to be a formality for Brazil to progress to the knockout stage of the campaign by topping Group. This means only one automatic qualification spot will be up for grabs to be contested by Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon. The battle is expected to be between the two Europeans, with both sides equally capable of making it to the next round.

Brazil - Through to the next round.

Serbia - Through to the next round.

Switzerland - Eliminated.

Cameroon: Eliminated.
