Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain will square off in a Champions League match at the Allianz Stadium on Wednesday night. The former are eager to beat Benfica to top spot in Group H but will be required to secure a win over the Bianconeri first.
Max Allegri's side has already been eliminated from this year's contest, but require a draw and a favorable result else where to continue in the Europa League. Should Maccabi Haifa do the unthinkable and defeat Benfica in the other group encounter, they will overtake the Serie A club in third place.
Having lost four of their five group games in the competition thus far, Juve are currently staring at the abyss. They enter the encounter on the back of an important 1-0 win over Lecce over the weekend. With injury plaguing the side and constantly hurting their chances, they will strive to make do with the personnel they have ahead of Wednesday.
On the contrary, PSG will go into the game fresh off a dramatic 4-3 victory against Troyes in Ligue 1. In the encounter, all three members of their famous attacking trident—Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar—scored goals.
With their progression to the knockout phase already confirmed, PSG almost have little to nothing to play. However, a defeat to Juve could see them securing a tough draw in the next round as Benfica looks prime to snatch the top spot from them with a win in their clash with Maccabi Haifa.
Juventus has won in six of its eight encounters with PSG. The French champions defeated them 2-1 at the Parc des Princes earlier in the season to record their only loss.
PSG will be visiting Juventus for the first time since 1996. In their last four encounters with the Turin giants, Le Parisiens have gone winless.
Juventus have never before lost four consecutive Champions League group stage matches.
Juventus's worst-ever record of five losses in a single Champions League season, set in 2002–03, will be matched if they lose this match.
In each of their previous four Champions League seasons, PSG has won the group stage championship game by a margin of at least four goals.
For the first time since the 2013–14 season, Juventus will not take part in the Champions League knockout stages.
