The Blues endured a horrible first 45 minutes against Brighton, scoring two own goals while conceding against Trossard.

Graham Potter, the highly-rated English tactician once beloved at Brighton, made his first return to the Amex Stadium on Saturday after leaving mid-season to take over Chelsea.

The 47-year-old went unbeaten in his first nine games in charge at Stamford Bridge, five of which came in the Premier League, and thus made the trip to his former club with tremendous confidence. Their last match saw them beat RB Salzburg 2-1 in the UEFA Champions League to turn around their European campaigning, confirming themselves as the group winners and securing a spot in the round of 16.

However, Potter's return to the Amex was anything but joyful. In fact, it did not take too long for things to quickly unfold for his side, with the London giants going 2-0 down in less than 15 minutes.

As usual, Leandro Trossard opened the scoring for De Zerbi's men in the fifth minute after some lovely footwork, and in the 14th minute, the Seagulls doubled their lead courtesy of an unfortunate Ruben Loftus-Cheek own goal.

Chelsea did force Robert Sánchez into some brilliant saves, with Conor Gallagher nearly scoring twice. However, three minutes before the break, the visitors went three nil down as a beautiful move involving Moisés Caicedo and Pervis Estupiñán ended in the third goal for Brighton just before the break. And once again, it was an own goal, as Trevoh Chalobah knocked the ball into the back of his own net after sliding to desperately cut out a pass.

As a result, the Amex Stadium crowd took this opportunity to troll their former head coach. The "you're getting sacked in the morning" chants broke out as Potter helplessly looked on.

Fortunately for the visitors, they pulled one back just after the break. Kai Havertz scored a much-needed header past Sanchez, netting in a second consecutive game for the Blues.
