Two of Portugal's biggest teams will face off as Porto and Benfica prepare to lock horns on Friday, October 21st.

Any game featuring any of Portugal's "Big Three" sides - that is, Porto, Benfica, and Sporting Lisbon - is always one that Portuguese football fans look forward to. On Friday, two of those teams will prepare to do battle as Porto welcome Benfica to the Estádio Do Dragão to kick off matchday ten in the Primeira Liga.

Porto have experienced a revival of sorts since returning to action following the latest international break. Sérgio Conceição's squad come into this game on a five match winning streak across all comps, including confidence boosting home and away wins over struggling Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League without conceding a goal and cruising to a 6-0 win over lower tier side Anadia in the Portuguese Cup.

At the moment, the Dragons are looking like a solid candidate to qualify from their Champions League quartet behind shock group leaders Club Brugge, albeit they will need to ensure they do not have any slip-ups on matchdays five and six. Domestically, Conceição's team sit in second spot, three points behind upcoming opponents Benfica, but may be hoping that their strong track record, which has seen them avoid defeat in their last nine meetings against the Eagles could help them pick up at least a point on Friday.

Meanwhile, Benfica have had their struggles, with injuries not helping Roger Schmidt's side at various points this season. They had to really dig deep to see off minnows Caldas in the Portuguese Cup, with that game going ultimately to penalties. That being said, the Eagles managed to hold PSG to two one-all draws in the Champions League, and in doing so, have put themselves in good contention to qualify from their quartet as they sit five points ahead of a floundering Juventus side.

On the domestic front, as noted before, Benfica currently enjoy a three point lead over the chasing pack, and while they have not won any of their last nine meetings with Porto across all comps, including losing their most recent three, they have been quite solid on the road. So far, the Eagles have kept a clean sheet in their last seven away league fixtures - although that certainly will come under threat on Friday - and are unbeaten in all but one of their last ten league games.
