Los Blancos will be without two key players for Sunday's all-importance clash with Lopetegui's fourth-placed side.

Real Madrid are gearing up for Sunday's showdown with Sevilla, one of their most crucial La Liga games of the season. Unfortunately, Zinedine Zidane, who was already dealing with a terrible injury crisis, has been rocked with a double blow ahead of their weekend clash.

Los Blancos, who are currently second in the table, are level on points with third-placed Barcelona but sit four ahead of Julen Lopetegui's fourth-placed side. Given that the Catalan giants are set to face La Liga leaders Atletico on Saturday, Real Madrid's result against Los Nervionenses could make or break the Merengues' title aspirations as they could either profit off of an Atletico slip-up or lose ground should Benzema and Co. suffer defeat on Sunday.

Unfortunately, Zidane will be without two key players for this Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium encounter and they are Sergio Ramos and Ferland Mendy. The pair both featured in the 2-0 midweek defeat to Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League but have been ruled out for the Sevilla game after picking up injuries once again.

The issue with Ramos is nothing new as their club captain has struggled for fitness for the majority of 2021. Having made a welcomed return for the Stamford Bridge trip, the Spaniard is now headed back to the treatment table after being diagnosed with tendonitis in his left hamstring.

"Following the tests carried out on Sergio Ramos by the Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with tendonitis in the semimembranosus muscle of his left hamstring," the official statement read, with no return date being mentioned for the out-of-contract icon.

The absence of Mendy is another blow given that the Spanish giants are already without Raphael Varane and Dani Carvajal, meaning Zidane will be without four important defenders for this crucial point of the season.

As mentioned above, failure to win on Sunday could all but end their title push as they could drop to third or fall five points behind, depending on who wins Barcelona vs Atletico.
