The world of women’s football will take full-throttle from Friday, May 6 through Thursday, May 13, exhibiting the NWSL Challenge Cup Final, the FA WSL’s final matchday, a clash between Frauen-Bundesliga title challengers Wolfsburg and Bayern and more.

NWSL Challenge Cup final

The Portland Thorns will host NJ/NY Gotham FC at Providence Park on Saturday, May 8, at 1 p.m. ET. The two sides reached the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup Final by finishing first in their respective division – East and West.

Three wins in the Thorns’ first three games against Kansas City, the Chicago Red Stars and OL Reign secured them a spot in the final. Portland arrives at the championship game as heavy favorites, boasting a star-studded roster with players like Crystal Dunn, Lindsay Horan, Raquel Rodriguez, Becky Sauerbrunn, Kelli Hubly, Christine Sinclair, Sophia Smith, among other high-caliber players.

On the other hand, the newly branded Gotham FC – formerly Sky Blue FC – also qualified to the final after three games. Two wins over the Pride and the Courage and two draws against the Spirit and Louisville were enough to reach the final. However, Freya Coombe will look for her team to score after failing to bag in a goal in the previous two matches.

CBS will broadcast the game on television in the USA and Canada. The game will be simulcasted exclusively online in the USA on Paramount+ and internationally on Twitch TV.

FA WSL final matchday

All eyes are on Chelsea and Manchester City as the final matchday of the 2021 FA Women’s Super League dawns on Sunday. A win over Reading would see Chelsea lift back-to-back WSL titles. However, if the Blues draw and Man City win, the league trophy will end up in Manchester instead of London.

Chelsea will host a tricky Reading side at Kingsmeadow on Sunday, May 9 at 9:30 a.m. ET. The Royals gained a reputation of disrupting top sides this season, defeating Manchester United, drawing against Arsenal and almost ending Manchester City’s title hopes in late March. However, Emma Hayes’ Blues will be confident after smashing Reading 5-0 away from home in January.

Manchester City will face West Ham at Chigwell Construction Stadium at the same time as Chelsea-Reading. The Cityzens took down West Ham 4-0 at home in January and will look to take advantage of the struggling side again on Sunday.

Both games will stream live on ATA Football in the USA, Germany and Italy. Also, The FA Player will stream all the other games internationally. Keep an eye on Manchester United and Arsenal, who are battling for a UEFA Women’s Champions League spot.

Frauen-Bundesliga – Wolfsburg vs. Bayern Munich

The German Frauen-Bundesliga will reach its apex on Sunday, May 9 when Wolfsburg take on league-leaders Bayern Munich at 7 a.m. ET. Two points separate the two German giants with three matchdays left in the season. The winner of the game will most likely lift the trophy in July.
