Barcelona's destiny to potentially win the 2020/2021 La Liga title is in their own hands after Athletic Club stunned Atletico Madrid to clinch a win in their clash on Sunday night. The former kept it late to dash the hopes of the current league leaders by scoring a late winner to secure the maximum points.
Having witnessed Barcelona's triumph over Villarreal a few hours earlier, Atletico Madrid needed a win in their trip to the Basque county in order to consolidate their status atop the league table. However, they suffered a disastrous start with Alejandro Berenguer Remiro scoring the opening goal for the Athletic Club.
After threatening the hosts with a series of attacks from that point, Diego Simeone's men finally had their breakthrough in the 77th minute. It seemed certain that the game was headed for a draw after Stefan Savic scored the leveller with a header but Marcelino's men had other ideas and would prove that with just four minutes of play left.
In the same manner as Los Colchoneros got their equalizer, Inigo Martinez rose to meet substitute Ibai Gomez's cross to score the eventual winner. Watch:

With the result, the No.1 could be changing hands soon should Barcelona win their outstanding game against Granada on Thursday. At the moment, the Catalans sit in third position - level with Real Madrid on 71 points and two points behind Atletico Madrid. The latter and the Camp Nou outfit are set for a potential title-decider in two weeks time.
