Since his £7M transfer from Nacional to Liverpool, defender Sebastian Coates has not captivated the public in England.
In an interview with LFC Magazine, the youngster recalled his decision to move away from his motherland. Coates, who was voted as the best young player at the 2011 Copa America, was quoted as saying:

“The biggest attraction was the challenge: to come to an unfamiliar place, a huge club, and make a name for myself. So far in my career, I have been very lucky to play for Nacional, to play in the Copa Libertadores, to win the Copa America.

“There has been a lot of success in a short period of time but I have achieved that in a place where I am most comfortable. Now, I am here, in a different country, in a different league, with different team-mates.”

Sebastian Coates made his Liverpool debut on match-day 5 of the English Premier League as the Merseyside Reds played away to Tottenham Hotspur. The Uruguayan defender came off the bench to replace Daniel Agger inside the 27th minute of the game. By then, Spurs were already a goal up through Luka Modric’s 7th minute wonder strike.

Coates picked up a 40th minute yellow card as Liverpool had to play with 10 men following Charlie Adam’s first half dismissal. Martin Skrtel joined Charlie Adam down the tunnel for an early shower at the 63rd minute before Spurs stunned the Merseyside Reds with 3 more goals from Defoe and Adebayor. But Sebastian Coates wants to forget about his miserable debut and transform into a Liverpool great as he avowed:

“The best players are successful wherever they go. I am determined to become an important player here at a historical stage of the club's future.”
