Musiala's historic brace to help Bayern to title

Bayern's young striker scores historic brace as die Roten march towards ninth straight title

April 19, 2021 By Michelle Bonsu
The Bayern youngster wrote his name in the history books as Bayern edged closer towards winning yet another league title.

Last week saw Bayern's hopes at successfully retaining their Champions League title go up in smoke as die Roten were dumped out of the tournament at the quarter-finals stage. Despite beating PSG 1-0 on the night, it wasn't enough to overturn a 3-2 loss from the first leg as Les Parisiens successfully got revenge on the Bavarian powerhouse for their finals loss from last season.

As they're also out of the DFB-Pokal after an embarrassing loss to minnows Holstein Kiel, the only title this season Bayern can successfully defend is the Bundesliga trophy, and they're well on course to do so for the ninth time. Die Roten did suffer a surprise slip-up recently as they were held to a one-all draw with Union Berlin, which allowed RB Leipzig to gain a sight glimmer of hope following their loss from the prior round.

However, last weekend, they took on Wolfsburg. And despite not being at their very best, one young player stood out to help Hansi Flick's men secure a crucial 3-2 win.

That player is none other than Jamal Musiala. Earlier this year, Musiala, then 17, netted for Bayern against Lazio, and became the competition's youngest goal-scorer of both English and German nationality.

Musiala was on the score-sheet this weekend, grabbing a brace to help Bayern secure all three points and regain their seven point lead over RB Leipzig, who failed to beat Hoffenheim.

And more important, he wrote his name in the history books.

How? Musiala, who just turned 18, has scored six Bundesliga goals so far. That makes him the youngest in league history to achieve this, and he was even close to grabbing a hat-trick. Unfortunately, Wolfsburg's Maxence Lacroix managed to hook his effort off the line at the last minute, but given his impressive debut senior season, he'll net that hat-trick sooner rather than from later, that's for sure.
