Red Devils fans say no to CR7 return

TRANSFER TALK: Man Utd reportedly consider swap deal between stars...but fans not impressed?

April 14, 2021 By Michelle Bonsu
While many Red Devils supporters remain fond of the player who once donned the iconic shirt, most aren't too keen on having him back at Old Trafford at this point.

The summer transfer window is nearly open, and as expected, the rumor mill is in full swing.

So, not surprisingly, there will be some stories coming out that are, well, more incredible than others.

One story, however, that has always been persistent, year after year, is Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United. Ever since the 36-year-old left Old Trafford, there have always been reports linking the Portuguese superstar with a return at some point. Whether it's an actuality, or wishful thinking, remains to be seen, but this time around, the Italian press in particular really seem keen on pushing this angle once again.

Juventus paid big bucks to secure CR7's services from Real Madrid a couple seasons back in a desperate bid to finally win the Champions League, and unfortunately, the Bianconeri haven't achieved that. Certainly, it's unrealistic for any club to pin all their hopes of winning a trophy on just one player, as although Ronaldo arguably is one of the best players of all time, there's only so much one man can do.

As we all know, winning a tournament takes more than the efforts of just one player, and Juve's falling short in European club football's premier competition, especially in the last two seasons, can't solely be placed at the multi Ballon d'Or winner's feet.

In any case, the Italian press again has been buzzing about Ronaldo's future, especially with Juve not even guaranteed a spot in the UCL for next season. Calciomercato has him linked with a return again to Old Trafford, and this time, their angle is a swap deal with none other than Paul Pogba.

The 28-year-old, who initially was on the books with Manchester United, grew frustrated with live under Sir Alex Ferguson's tenure and moved to Turin in 2016, where he grew into one of the best midfielders in the world. After winning several Scudetti and other titles under Antonio Conte and then Massimiliano Allegri, he then returned to Manchester United as a seasoned veteran, and now the Bianconeri could be hoping to bring him back to see him line up alongside promising talents like American star Weston McKennie, who has been one of the shining lights for Andrea Pirlo's men this season.

But back to Ronaldo - PSG may be prepared to throw a spanner in the mix, as Les Parisiens have been also long linked to trying to bring the EURO 2016 winner to Paris in hopes to have him feature in Ligue 1.

However, quite a few Manchester United fans apparently aren't too keen on this idea. Despite having high regards for Ronaldo, many would prefer not to see CR7 return to Old Trafford, and will hope that Pogba, who has yet to sign a contract extension with one year remaining, opts to stay put with the English giants.
