The attacker has received flak after failing to make a mark in Tuesday’s crucial tie.

The European champions saw their hopes of defending the title crashing to an end despite securing a 1-0 win over the Parc des Princes outfit in the quarter-final second leg encounter.

Bayern entered the game needing at least two goals to book a spot in the next round after suffering a 3-2 loss against the Ligue 1 outfit in the first leg played last week. Hansi Flick's side was without two of their key players in Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski and the mantle to get the goals for the Bundesliga club fell within the arms of Eric Choupo-Mouting, Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane who led the attacking line.

Just as it was in the first lef, Choupo-Mouting got on the scoresheet against his former club, scoring before the interval with to give fuel optimism among his side. Neymar Jr came close for the hosts by hitting the post twice while Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappe consistently tormented the Bayern Munich backline.

However, in the end, none of them could break the deadlock for the host while Bayern Munich pushed for a second. But it is the latter who will live to rue a host of missed opportunities with winger Leroy Sane being culpable on multiple occasions. The former Manchester City star, despite having a good overall performance, failed to create a goalscoring opportunity or score with the clear cut chances he had. One which could have changed the overall complexity of the game fell his way right on the verge of full-time and the German attacker ended up hit the ball right at Keylor Navas after overlooking the idea to pass the ball to any of his unmarked teammates in PSG's box.

Meanwhile, PSG's elimination of Bayern Munich in Tuesday night's clash is the first instance in Champions League history where the previous season's losing finalists have eliminated the holders in the knockout stages. The Ligue 1 club now awaits the winner of Wednesday's clash between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund to know whom their semi-final opponents will be.

Below is how some fans reacted to Leroy Sane's shortcomings against the French champions:
