Bayern Munich receive injury boost ahead of crucial UCL clash with Paris Saint-Germain

The Bavarians are close to having one of their key men back in their ranks after missing his service in recent weeks.

Bayern Munich have been handed a massive injury boost with striker Robert Lewandowski returning to training ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain. The 32-year-old attacker had a personal running session as he steps up his recovery from a knee problem that kept him out of the first leg of the quarter-final clash with Les Parisiens.

Lewandowski was forced off in Poland's 3-0 win over Andorra during the international break and ended up missing his country's subsequent meeting with England. It was later revealed that the reigning Best FIFA Men's Footballer of the Year had suffered a ligament injury in his right knee with initial reports suggesting that he is set for a four-week absence on the sidelines.

In his absence, the Bavarians have recorded a win and a draw against RB Leipzig and Union Berlin in the Bundesliga while picking up a 3-2 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. On Monday, the Bundesliga club issued a statement confirming that the attacker has stepped up his recovery process although he is not expected to make it in time for Tuesday's trip. It reads as follows: "Robert Lewandowski is working hard on his comeback from a knee injury and Bayern's top scorer completed his first running session in the Munich snow on Monday morning.

"Lewandowski returned injured from international duty with Poland and will again not be available for the Champions League quarter-final second leg away at Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday."

Although the striker will not be involved, his teammates will be poised to turn things around at the Parc des Princes with the Champions League title defence on the line. A double by Kylian Mbappe and Marquinhos' strike ended the reigning European champions' 19-match unbeaten run in the competition, with Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting and Thomas Muller giving them a lifeline with a goal apiece.
