Heavy favorites to win it all, the Portland Thorns, will take on NWSL debutants Kansas City on Friday at 10:30 p.m. ET.

The second game of the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup between the Thorns and Kansas City will be live-streamed on Paramount+ in the U.S. and internationally on Twitch.

Portland Thorns vs. Chicago Red Stars on Friday at 10:30 p.m. ET

The Portland Thorns enters the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup as one of the frontrunners to win it all. The Thorns showcased their strength in the NWSL Fall Series last year by winning the competition. They finished above Challenge Cup reigning champs the Houston Dash by one point after three wins and a draw.

The Thorns return to competitive play boasting an even better roster than the one manager Mark Parsons had at his disposal last year. High-profile newcomers in Crystal Dunn and Finnish defender Natalia Kuikka joined in the offseason to improve an already stacked roster with players like Adrianna Franch, Becky Sauerbrunn, Lindsey Horan, Rocky Rodriguez, Christine Sinclair, Sophia Smith and Morgan Weaver. However, Dunn, Horan, Sauerbrunn, Smith, Kuikka and Sinclair will not be available for the game due to the April FIFA international window that clashes with the start of the 2021 Challenge Cup.

On the other hand, NWSL newbies Kansas City will look to take advantage of Portland's long list of absentees. Like the Thorns, Kansas City will also be without some of its star players in Mariana Larroquette, Desire Scott, Jordyn Listro and Chloe Lozargo. However, experienced captain Amy Rodriguez will lead the debutants from the striker position.
