After seeing off Italian giants Juventus, the hosts will be keen on proving that they're not a team to be discounted as they welcome London powerhouse Chelsea for part one of their quarter-finals tie on Wednesday, April 7th.

Preview: Porto vs Chelsea

Porto will be facing Chelsea for the first time since the 2015/2016 Champions League, and if these words from retired player Paulo Jorge dos Santos Futre are anything to go by, the Dragons will be extra fired up when the Blues come to town on Wednesday.

The former winger, commonly known as Futre, reportedly took offense to what he perceived as "over-celebrations" on the part of Thomas Tuchel's men after it was announced that the London giants would be taking on the Portuguese powerhouse in this season's Champions League quarter-finals. Porto, for their part, successfully saw off Italian titans Juventus to book their spot at this juncture, and boy, did they do so in exciting fashion.

Despite losing the second leg 3-2 in Turin on March 9th, Sergio Conceição's men had done enough thanks to their 2-1 win from the home leg back in February to see them through to the quarter-finals for the fourth time in the past 16 seasons. The last time they got beyond this juncture was in the 2003/2004 term, when, then under the leadership of Jose Mourinho, they shocked everyone to win the title that season, so if they can manage to get past Chelsea, the Dragons will truly deserve to be viewed as a major force to be reckoned with.

Porto notably snapped Chelsea's eight match winning streak against Portuguese clubs back in September 2015 as they earned a hard-fought 2-1 win during the group stages. Overall, Chelsea still do boast the better head to head record, with five wins from their past eight meetings (D1 L2), but Porto have been in impressive form domestically as well. Although they're still eight points behind Sporting CP in the Primeira Liga title race, they come into this match on a four match winning streak and certainly will be relishing the chance to cause more upset for Chelsea - especially following the Blues' awful performance against West Brom this past weekend.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea had seemingly started to rebuild after a wobbly period that saw club icon Frank Lampard given his marching papers. In fact, the German tactician was enjoying an unbeaten spell across all comps. That is, until a highly-unfavored West Brom side rolled into town and decided to turn everything upside down.

The Baggies had won only three matches prior to arriving at Stamford Bridge, but wily tactician Sam Allardyce had other plans in mind. They may have the worst defense in the league, but they certainly didn't look like it as they ran riot against a shell-shocked Chelsea, who were reduced to ten men following Thiago Silva's early dismissal, and by the time the dust settled, the Blues had shipped a whopping five goals.

It was really a shocking outcome considering that Chelsea hadn't conceded a single goal during their last seven matches prior to Saturday's horror show. There will be no time to really focus on that, however, as they'll be taking on an opponent who have won six of their last seven games across all comps and will be hungry to prove a point, especially as Porto now have momentum on their side.

In addition, the Dragons are fully aware of their frustrating track record not against Chelsea, but against English teams in general, but having seen off Juventus and now steadily growing in confidence, they'll be looking to exploit any perceived cracks in the Blues' armor as the two familiar foes prepare to do battle with a prized spot in the semi-finals at stake.

Team news: Porto vs Chelsea

Porto: The Dragons will have to make do without key player Sérgio Oliveira due to a ban, while Mehdi Taremi is also suspended, leaving them without the services of another top goal-scorer.

Chelsea: The Blues have been given a huge boost with the return of N'Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic following their respective recoveries from hamstring injuries; however, it's not likely either player will be involved in the starting XI. Young English striker Tammy Abraham has also returned to the squad as well.
