Ramos responds to Real Madrid exit talks

Transfer: Sergio Ramos responds to Real Madrid exit talks

March 31, 2021 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The veteran defender addressed claims of his impending departure from Real Madrid after Spain's victory over Kosovo.

Sergio Ramos has left the door open on his future at Real Madrid with rumors suggesting that an exit is imminent. The 35-year-old center-back had a cameo appearance in Spain's 3-1 win over Kosovo in Wednesday night's European World Cup qualifying group encounter.

In the night in which he became the third most-capped player in the history of international football, Ramos was made to come on from the bench for the second time in succession. While a lot of questions were asked, it was later explained by La Roja's technical team that the decision taken was "technical".

In the aftermath of the proceeding, the 2010 World Cup winner was asked about his exclusion from the starting line-up and he was quick to acknowledge that his involvement is always up to the coach.

"It's always important to add games and achieve the goal, which was to add three points," he said as per Marca. "It doesn't matter if it's one minute, one game or half-time. That's not my decision, it's up to the coach.

"The coach [Luis Enrique] was clear. Everything that happens with me is taken out of context; the reality is one [thing] and that's what the coach said. Little by little I'm finding my rhythm after a major knee injury.

"I'm just another player and when I play as a starter I'll be as happy as I am today."

On the subject of his future at Real Madrid, the Ramos revealed that nothing had changed about his contractual situation. The defender was offered a two-year deal with a 10 per cent pay cut by club President Florentino Perez or a second option - the continuation of his current wages but for only one more year - but turned down both offers.

"I'm clear about my future," he added. There's nothing new, I'm focused. In a week we're going to be playing pretty much the entire season, and I want to play and contribute my best level. I hope we get good results and I hope we can give the level we want."
