Due to COVID-19, the Herons have decided not to risk things and will not be featuring in a trio of warm-up games leading into the upcoming 2021 MLS season.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see former Juventus stars Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi in action with their current team, Inter Miami.

Now in their sophomore season, the Miami-based outfit, led by David Beckham and coached by his former Manchester United and English national team colleague Phil Neville, are hoping to improve on their 19th placed overall finish and 10th-placed Eastern conference result from their debut campaign.

As part of this preparation, the Herons were scheduled to take part in a quintet of warm-up matches to be played between March 20th and April 3rd. Already, their tie against USL Championship outfit Miami FC was called off due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in their opponents' camp.

And although Neville's men were able to play in their subsequent friendly with fellow Championship side Tampa Bay Rowdies a week later - losing 1-0 - they then opted to cancel yesterday's friendly with Charleston Battery, as well as this weekend's double header against fellow MLS teams Nashville SC and New York Red Bulls citing concerns regarding player and staff safety.

That means that Neville's side have only taken part in one pre-season friendly match prior to the upcoming 2021 MLS competitive season and have lost that tie. While pre-season games aren't an indicator of how a team will fare for the actual term ahead, it's certainly not how he would have wanted to get his team up and running for proceedings, which will see them open up their campaign with a home clash against LA Galaxy on Sunday, April 18th.
