The Three Lions look to make it three wins out of three when they host the White and Reds at Wembley. Here's a preview of England vs Poland.

England vs Poland – preview

One of the most anticipated games of the ongoing international break will take place on Wednesday, with European giants England taking on Poland in an exciting World Cup qualifier. This Matchday 3 affair kicks off at 2:45 p.m. ET as the Three Lions aim to register their third consecutive win in the race to make it to Qatar 2022.

Gareth Southgate's side have gotten off to a great start, beating San Marino and Albania 5-0 and 2-0, respectively, in their opening two fixtures. As a result, they currently boast six points and have a two point lead over Poland and Hungary – the two are tied on four points.

Captain fantastic Harry Kane returned to the mix in the weekend victory over Albania, having sat out Matchday's emphatic triumph. The Tottenham ace had a hand in both goals, scoring one and setting up the other to continue his excellent form in 2020/21. He broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, heading a lovely cross from Luka Shaw into the back of the net before turning provider for Mason Mount's second-half strike.

Their clash with the White and Reds should be trickier. England boast a near-impeccable record at home, winning 12 of their last 13 fixtures on home soil, scoring 44 times along the way while conceding only six. Regardless, Southgate's men cannot let complacency creep in when they host Paulo Sousa's side.

Fortunately for England, they will not have to face Robert Lewandowski, the world's deadliest striker. Injury has robbed the 32-year-old of the chance of playing at Wembley, having damaged ligaments in his knee. Not only will the striker miss out on this World Cup qualifier, but he will also be sidelined for both legs of Bayern Munich's UEFA Champions League quarter-final showdown vs PSG, having been ruled out for four weeks.

Defeat at Wembley could leave Poland five points behind England and three behind Hungary, should Magyarok beat Andorra. Can the White and Reds beat the Three Lions without their talisman striker? Tune in to find out.

Team news

England: Nick Pope will start in goal for this fixture but Arsenal sensation Bukayo Saka and Man Utd ace Marcus Rashford will both miss this tie. Kyle Walker overcame an injury to feature over the weekend and should be a starter in this crucial qualifier. Mason Mount is a doubt.

Poland: Robert Lewandowski is out, meaning Milik and Piatek will spearhead the attack. Kamil Piatkowski has unfortunately contracted COVID-19, as has Grzegorz Krychowiak, and will thus play no part in Wednesday's game.

Key stats

  • England have faced Poland 19 times and have suffered only one defeat (W11, D7).

  • Poland have lost all but two of their last eight trips to England (D2).

  • The White and Reds boast one victory from their last four away fixtures.
