The Argentine ace could be key to keep Lio Messi around, but the Dutch boss has other plans when it comes to reinforcements for next season.

It seems that Lionel Messi's dream to play alongside Sergio "Kun" Agüero at Camp Nou will not be fulfilled, as the deal that would see Manchester City's all-time top scorer arriving to Barcelona has been reportedly snubbed by Ronald Koeman.

One of the top duties the new presidential team led by Joan Laporta will have at Camp Nou will be that of hiring new players to boost the squad. While Agüero's arrival could fit the bill and also give Messi one more reason to stay, team coach Ronald Koeman is not ready to approve the deal, since he has already set sights on another player: Memphis Depay.

The Dutch striker has been linked to Los Culés since the news of Koeman's arrival to Catalunya emerged, and while he came close to joining the club last summer, his wage and Barcelona's financial problems prevented that deal from happening. While the team's monetary situation has not changed, the fact that Depay's contract with Lyon expires this season -just like Agüero's at Manchester City- makes the move appealing to all parties.

Now that Agüero has admitted that his time with the Cityzens will come to an end, the Argentine became the Catalan giants' top transfer option, but Koeman's decision to hire Depay instead could be key to see this deal fade away.

Nevertheless, Lionel Messi's influence on the new board could be decisive when the time comes to choose reinforcements. Which one of these players will end up joining Los Culés? We will have to wait and see how things develop in the next couple of months.
