Lewandowski out for England clash

Huge blow for Poland and Bayern Munich as Lewandowski picks up knee injury

March 29, 2021 By Ali M.
The 32-year-old striker has been ruled out of the upcoming World Cup qualifier against England and is a doubt for Bayern's two upcoming crucial games.

The international break strikes again as one of the biggest names in world football has picked up an injury while on national team duty. That man is none other than Robert Lewandowski, with the Polish striker taking a knock to his knee in their weekend clash with Andorra.

The 32-year-old goalscoring machine captained his nation in Sunday's FIFA World Cup winner, scoring a brace en route to their 3-0 triumph over the European minnows. However, the striker was unable to complete the match, coming off after the hour mark.

Poland later confirmed that the Bundesliga sensation had sustained damage to his knee ligaments, thus ruling him out for their highly-anticipated midweek World Cup qualifier against England. This comes as a huge blow to the White and Reds as they will struggle to replace Lewandowski's goals in Wednesday's crucial fixture.

Paulo Sousa's have begun the race to qualify for Qatar 2022 in respectable manner, drawing once and winning once in their opening two games. As a result, they sit in second with four points but already find themselves two points behind the Three Lions, who top the group with six points thanks to back-to-back victories over San Marino and Albania. This means the visitors could fall five points behind Gareth Soutgate's side should they lose.

Lewandowski is not a blow to Poland alone as Bayern Munich, who are set to be back in action this weekend, are gearing up for a crucial league trip to RB Leipzig on Saturday. After that is the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final showdown against PSG, which the Bavarians praying they will have their talisman forward back in time for.
