Sporting's relentless pace has only been overshadowed by Benfica, who have a better winning streak than the one owned by the league leaders.

The 2020-21 Primeira Liga title race continues to keep fans on the edge of their seats, and while Sporting's lead remains uncontested, there were quite a few stirs caused by the games that took place in the past weekend.

Just to get you started, Benfica is back in the title race after beating Braga on Sunday. Jorge Jesús' men are now on a four-game winning streak, which is better than the one owned by Sporting and Porto. Despite their current momentum, Benfica will still need to step on the gas if they want to catch up with the leaders, who also claimed a win this weekend. As for Porto, their curious victory this weekend kept them ten points behind the league leaders, but Benfica seems to be gearing up for a battle that might only see the end when the campaign comes to a close.

Sporting are still ten points away from Porto, following each team's victory this weekend. The biggest change among the top four came on Sunday, when Benfica's 2-0 win over Braga gave Jorge Jesús and his crew the third spot in the tournament.

Primeira Liga - Top headlines

  • Haris Seferovic, the most in-form striker in the league - The Swiss ace has risen through the goalscoring ranks thanks to his impressive late form, which have seen him being involved in eight of Benfica's last ten goals, scoring seven and providing one assist. Seferovic has now scored more goals (8) in 2021 than any other player in the Primeira Liga.

  • Ruben Amorim closes in on Sporting's all-time points record - What started as a desire for Ruben Amorim and Sporting could turn into a reality in the next couple of months. The team's unbeaten run and points tally hint that, when the season comes to an end, Sporting could have the title and a new points record for the franchise, one that was established by Jorge Jesus in 2016.

  • Otavio extends contract with Porto until 2025 - Good news for Porto's fans, as midfielder Otavio signed a contract extension on Monday that will see him extend his stay at the club for the next four years. The midfielder had been linked to teams such as Milan since his contract was due to end this summer, but the Dragons have secured the future of one of their most reliable players who is key to Sergio Conceicao's tactics.
