Brazil will face an Ecuador side without the likes of Antonio Valencia…
Finally, Argentina overcame their first round exit woes by winning when it counted the most. They thrashed Costa Rica 3-0 to win quarter-finals tickets and are now waiting to know their upcoming opponents between Chile, Peru and Uruguay.

In the meantime, everyone’s attention has turned to Brazil’s 2011 Copa America campaign. The Seleçao are also expected to emulate foes Argentina by reaching the next stage of the tournament despite stumbling to 2 draws so far.

The Brazilians have also received some kind of boost since Ecuador have been hit with a very bad news. Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia has been ruled out of tomorrow night’s clash. Doctor Patricio Maldonado confirmed the fact by telling reporters:

“Valencia’s injury, unfortunately, will not allow him to be 100% fit. Chances are for him not to play. He still feels pain but the inflammation has been reduced a lot. But in such a decisive match you must be 100% fit.”

Ecuador will have to organize their play without the influential midfielder. Meanwhile, Mano Menezes is under pressure to get things right at last.

The media in Brazil moaned that they couldn’t even relish Argentina’s early stumbles. And now that the Albiceleste have made it into the quarter-finals, it could seem like the Seleção have far less excuses to go home early.
