At this point in time, Nani believes he can only welcome the signing of Ashley Young at Manchester United...
Sir Alex Ferguson fulfilled his wish of signing Ashley Young from Aston Villa this month and most Manchester United fans—if not all—think that the Red Devils were spot on to make this move. However, Nani’s place in the starting XI is also now in doubt.

Pundits have been looking at how best Ferguson might use both players—Nani and Ashley Young, whereas speculations in the media suggest that the Portuguese international could be on his way out of Old Trafford as Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan are reportedly interested anyway.

Despite signing for Manchester United in 2007, Nani has been struggling to get first-team action. Meanwhile, his statistics have been rather impressive. The 24-year-old player scored 10 important goals and made 18 assists for Manchester United last season. But Nani may now have to fight fierce competition from new signing Ashley Young, should he indeed remain for yet another year at Manchester United.

Fans of the Red Devils may be worried about the possible negative influence of the Nani vs Young duel on the entire team. However, the Portuguese—who only came on as a substitute against Barcelona at Wembley in May—gave a bit of reassurance as he told English news source The Sun:

“Of course I have to welcome everyone they sign. I think Manchester United is a fantastic club. When they bring in new players, they know if it is good for the team or not, and this signing has to help them.

“It is good for the team, we want more players to help us to win trophies. I have been at United when Cristiano Ronaldo was there. Cristiano was one of the best players in the world. At that moment I had no worries about him taking my place.”

According to reports from The Sun, Nani and Ferguson will meet for “crunch talks” in July as Manchester United will regroup for pre-season football ahead of the 2011-2012 season.
