Group C: United States, North Korea, Colombia, Sweden
United States may be the favorites to prevent Germany from clinching their third Women’s World Cup trophy in a row. However, they have a tough task moving forward. The USA have fallen in an interesting group which contains North Korea.
Note that this Asian nation has made some serious progress in Women’s Football down the line and they are now considered to be a great threat. The Americans have certainly not forgotten what happened during China 2007—when North Korea gave them a real scare before an O-Reilly goal midway through the second half earn the USA a hard-fought 2-2 draw.
This occurred during the United States’ opening game of the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Coincidentally, 4 years later, the Americans will have to open their 2011 Women’s World Cup campaign against North Korea as well.
Colombia, meanwhile, present a curious case as they’ll be participating in their first ever World Cup finals. In the meantime, Sweden will be looking forward to bury their disappointing China 2007 campaign by at least emulating what they achieved during USA 2003 when they reached the final of the competition.
