Milan vs Udinese: Preview, TV listings, match facts - March 3

March 2, 2021 By Michelle Bonsu
Milan will be hoping to close the gap on their city rivals when they take on Udinese at the Stadio San Siro.

Preview: Milan vs Udinese

After a hard-fought win over Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, Milan will be looking to fully get back into the Scudetto race. The victory for Stefano Pioli's men came after an embarrassing 2-0 loss to debutant side Spezia, followed by a 3-0 rout by city rivals Inter. The positive result against the Giallorossi will certainly have helped to alleviate the worries of Rossoneri fans, who had seen their team not only lose twice on the trot, but fail to score.

Milan have lost four times this season, but two of them are in their most recent five. Unfortunately for the Diavolo, their win against Roma came at a high price, as veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered a thigh injury that will keep him out and likely miss the highly-anticipated clash with Manchester United later this month. Notably, Milan's win marks the first time the Lupi have lost on home turf all season, and they will naturally seek to use that positive momentum to see off Udinese.

Udinese, for their part, were once flirting with relegation, but Luca Gotti's side have turned things around. The Zebrette presently sit in 12th place, and are comfortably well away from the drop zone. They've also won three of their last five games, including last weekend's 1-0 win over Fiorentina. Overall, the visitors have lost just one of prior seven games, which, on paper, may look promising. However, Udinese have fared much better at the Dacia Arena than they have in their travels, especially when it comes to taking on the teams in the top four. A case in point is their 3-0 loss to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico; by contrast, Gotti's squad were able to hold league leaders Inter to a scoreless draw on their home turf.

Both teams will certainly be going for a win here. For the visitors, they'll be aiming to start to string together a possible unbeaten streak just to build a bigger cushion between themselves and the bottom three. As for the hosts, with Inter four points ahead and set to face Parma later, it's crucial for them to ensure they don't slip up here.

Team news: Milan vs Udinese

Milan: In addition to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, new signing Mario Mandzukic is still not fully fit. Both Hakan Calhanoglu and Ante Rebic also suffered injuries during last weekend's game, and it looks like only Rebic could possibly feature - if at all. Finally Ismael Bennacer's injury woes aren't over yet as the Algerian international will have to wait longer to make his return to action

Udinese: Fernando Forestieri, Gerard Deulofeu, Thomas Ouwejan, Mato Jajalo and Ignacio Pussetto are all out for the visitors due to injury.
