May 18, 2011 marks the 33rd birthday of FC Porto goalkeeper Helton. The Brazilian is looking forward to making it a memorable one.
Whether you lose or win a final, you will remember it... for different reasons, actually. Maybe because a crucial mistake cost your team the title or maybe because a heroic gesture offered glory to your club. Helton is hoping for the latter to happen. In an interview with UEFA.com, the goalkeeper declared:

“It will be one heck of a present if we win the UEFA Europa League [on Wednesday]. Everybody knows just how badly I want to win a European competition with Porto.”

Helton has been a champion with FC Porto at several occasions. He has won 5 different Portuguese league medals since joining the Dragons in 2005.

The Brazilian shot stopper has also won 3 Portuguese Cups and 3 Portuguese Supercups but he is yet to achieve European glory with FC Porto. Tonight could be his night.

A triumph in Dublin will see Helton’s name added to the list of those who experienced European final success on their birthdays. It includes Francis Lee, Daniele Massaro and Ergun Penbe. The last player to participate in a European final on his birthday is Lee McCulloch.

He was in Helton’s position as he turned 30 on the day Rangers took on Zenith in the 2008 UEFA Cup final. However, disappointment spoiled McCulloch’s day as Rangers lost to their Russian counterparts. Can Helton avoid a miserable feat with FC Porto?
