Manchester United will welcome Newcastle to Old Trafford on Sunday as they look to get their mojo back after recording a series of bad results in the Premier League. The Red Devils enter Sunday's encounter off the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion that has put their title challenge against rivals Manchester City in serious jeopardy. Last weekend's result took the club's winless run to two in their last two outings as they had previously dropped another two points in the meeting with Everton that ensued before that. At the moment, they are 10 points behind Pep Guardiola's side who are not showing any signs of slowing down in their title charge.
Following the draw with West Brom, manager of the Old Trafford outfit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated that the fight for the title was far from over. On Sunday, the Norweigian manager will rely on his men to deliver a good response in the league encounter as they did in the 4-0 away win over Real Sociedad in the Europa League Round 32 tie. It is without doubt that the 13-time Premier League champions are favorites coming up against the Magpies and the fact that they have won all but one of their last five matches between them delivers an added motivation.
Newcastle, being privy to this record, will look to upset the odds once more as they seek a turnaround of their own this season. The St James' outfit have generally been inconsistent, with their form putting them right above the danger zone. At the moment, Steve Bruce's men only sit three points above 17th-placed Fulham and a defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday could put them in a very sticky situation.
They will travel to Manchester with just two wins from their last 15 outings across all competitions. Two of the games have resulted in draws while the remaining 13 have been losses. Considering the current form of the side they will go up against, a lot more effort will be required of them to get anything out of Old Trafford.
Manchester United will be without the service of Paul Pogba as he is yet to recover from the injury he picked up in the draw with Everton. Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani face late fitness after missing the clash with Real Sociedad whereas Scott McTominay could be ruled out with an aggravated knock.
For Newcastle, Callum Wilson is still unavailable with a muscle injury. Skipper Jamaal Lascelles returned from a spell on the sidelines by featuring in last weekend's defeat to Chelsea but Federico Fernandez is ruled out. Jeff Hendrick will be in contention after returning from suspension.
Manchester United: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, Matic; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Cavani
Newcastle United: Darlow; Krafth, Lascelles, Clark, Lewis; Willock, Hayden, Shelvey; Almiron, Gayle, Saint-Maximin.
