The German international finally found the back of the as Chelsea put two past Newcastle in the first half of Monday night's clash.

Chelsea striker Timo Werner ended his Premier League goal drought at Stamford Bridge with a goal in the win over Newcastle United on Monday night. The 25-year-old German attacker, after 100 days without scoring in the league, netted the Blues' second in the 2-0 victory.

Thomas Tuchel's men showed intent right from the onset and thrived in the absence of striker Tammy Abraham who picked up an injury inside the first 20 minutes. 10 minutes later, his replacement, Olivier Giroud, set the tone for the night by opening the scoring for his fourth Premier League goal in 13 appearances.

Soon after, Timo Werner ended a run of exactly 1000 minutes without scoring by guiding a loose ball in the penalty area past Karl Darlow. The player's last league goal was against Sheffield United in November last year.

In the grand scheme of things, Chelsea climbed to fourth position on the league table, demoting reigning champions Liverpool. The Blues have now accrued 42 points from 24 matches. Relatively, Tuesday night's result meant that they have now conceded just a single goal in their five Premier League matches under Thomas Tuchel – the joint-lowest number of goals conceded across a manager's first five games in the competition.
