The Blues will be looking to make it three wins in their first four games under Tuchel but will face an in-form Blades side. Here's our preview of Sheffield vs Chelsea.

Sheffield vs Chelsea – preview

Thomas Tuchel is preparing for his fourth game in charge of Chelsea, with the Blues set to lock horns with Sheffield United in Sunday's 2:15 p.m. ET kick-off. This game will see the London giants travel to Bramall Lane to do battle live on Peacock and SiriusXM FC.

After kicking off the German's Stamford Bridge reign with a goalless draw with Wolves, Chelsea have sprung to life, winning the following two games. The 2-0 victory over Burnley saw the newly-appointed tactician pick up his first three points while the 1-0 triumph over Tottenham was a statement.

Jorginho scored the only goal of the game courtesy of a penalty as he excellently dispatched the first-half spot kick past Hugo Lloris. While the score line was narrow, the Blues exhibited more dominance than Spurs despite being the away side.

Werner led the attack but showed no sign of rekindling his form, which is said to be one of several issue Tuchel has been tasked with solving. However, Mason Mount and Hudson-Odoi have been nothing short of amazing and will be aiming to impress the new sheriff in town even further.

Sheffield United are bottom of the league, meaning a slip-up cannot be afforded. Chelsea have overtaken Tottenham in the standings but remain four points off fourth-placed Liverpool in their uphill battle to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

It should be noted that the Blades have found some form as of late. While they have won only three games in the entire 2020/21 EPL campaign, those three victories came in their last five fixtures. Furthermore, in those five matches, Chris Wilder's men conceded more than once on only one occasion. As a result, Tuchel's men will need to be clinical.

Team news

Sheffield: Ethan Ampadu is unavailable as he cannot face his parent club. Oli McBurnie will be keen on a start but is unlikely to take Billy Sharp's place in the lineup.

Chelsea: Thiago Silva is out due to a thigh injury, with Andreas Christensen set to deputize in his absence. Kurt Zouma and Kai Havertz are doubts after picking up knocks in the build-up to the Tottenham win.

Key stats

  • Chelsea have lost three of their last four trips to Sheffield.

  • The Blades have won three times in their last five EPL outings but have picked up zero points from the other two (D2).

  • The Blues have lost only once to a team at the bottom of the table in 12 encounters, winning 10 and drawing once.
