The Gunners will be in action this midweek with the sole aim of returning to winning ways when they visit the Molineux Stadium. Here's our preview of Wolves vs Arsenal.

Wolves vs Arsenal – Preview

Arsenal are gearing up for what should be an interesting midweek fixture in the Premier League, taking on 14th-placed Wolves. This 1 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. GMT kick-off will take place at the Molineux Stadium, a ground where the Gunners have struggled at in recent years, as both teams look to return to winning ways.

Arteta's side head into this fixture on the back of their recent 0-0 draw at home to Man United. That Emirates Stadium clash was tipped to be a thriller but the north London giants were forced to settle for a point. While Lacazette and Co. did have opportunities to win the game, the result was seen as positive for the Gunners due to the squad they fielded.

Arteta had many injury issues and was forced to play without several key names. Aubameyang and Tierney were ruled out early while teenage sensation Bukayo Saka was forced to sit the game out due to a hip issue. Martinelli came in for the young Three Lions talent but was unable to replicate the Englishman's scintillating form, hence their inability to score.

Saka has been instrumental to Arsenal's recent resurgence – the Gunners are unbeaten in their last seven league games, winning five and drawing two. With a goal contribution of six in his last six outings (four goals, two assists), the Gunners are keen to have the 19-year-old back in the squad but the odds of this occurring in time for the Wolves game are slim.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Mikel admitted that both the winger and his Scottish left-back are unlikely to be fit for Tuesday. Furthermore, Aubameyang has just been cleared to rejoin the team due to COVID-19 restrictions, having left the country to be with his ill mother, and thus might not be up to speed. Given that Tottenham and Chelsea will be facing off on Thursday, Arsenal could leapfrog one of their two London rivals depending on who loses and thus need to beat Wolves regardless of their injury crisis.

One thing working in the Gunners' favor is the form of Nuno's side. The West Midlands club are currently on an eight-game winless streak, losing five and drawing three. As a result, Neto and Co. have dropped to 14th. Wolves emerged triumphant the last time they locked horns with Arsenal but could be in for a tougher task this time around.

Team news

Wolves: Raul Jimenez, Jonny, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Marcal are all on the sidelines. Furthermore, Ruben Neves is unavailable, leaving Nuno with another selection headache.

Arsenal: While Tierney and Saka might not recover in time, Lacazette is all but destined to feature despite being forced off the pitch in the Man United draw. Pablo Mari and Dani Ceballos are a bit off in their recovery and will likely sit this one out, meaning we could see an identical lineup to the one against Man Utd.

Key stats

  • Arsenal have kept five clean sheets in their last six league games.

  • As a result, the Gunners boast the second-best defense in the league, having conceded only 20 goals so far this season. Only Man City (13) sit ahead of them.

  • Wolves have recorded only one clean sheet in their last 14 league outings.

  • Furthermore, Nuno's men have won only twice in their last 14 EPL fixtures. However, one of those triumphs came against Arsenal, beating the Gunners 2-1 at the Emirates.
