The two attackers were involved in an angry outburst in Tuesday's cup tie.

Former Manchester United teammates Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku were involved in a feisty bust-up in Tuesday night's Coppa Italia quarter-final clash between Intern Milan and AC Milan. The pair were at each other's throat in the course of the first half and had to be restrained by their teammates to prevent things from escalating.

Prior to the moment where tensions reached an all-time high inside San Siro, Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave the Rossoneri the edge by breaking the deadlock inside the 31st minute. A few minutes later, the Swede was pictured in a heated argument with Lukaku, and almost faced the full wrath of the match referee by receiving a straight red card for a headbutt incident. The 39-year-old forward and his former striking partner at Manchester United were however subjected to a soft punishment by receiving a yellow card.

However, that was not the end of the bad blood between both players with fight almost breaking out between the two players as they headed for the dugout during half time. It remains unclear as to what really instigated the fight although Romelu Lukaku was captured by the pitch-side microphones calling Ibrahimovic "a b***h" and telling him, "f**k you and your wife" while being restrained. 13 minutes after play resumed for the second half, Zlatan Ibrahimovic received his marching orders with a second booking after impeding the run of Aleksander Kolarov.

Watch the incidents below:

In Ibrahimovic's absence, his handicapped Milan side could not hold onto the lead as Romelu Lukaku restored parity with a spot-kick in the 71st minute. Christian Eriksen then sealed off the win to book a semi-final berth for the Nerazzurri with a brilliant free-kick in the 97th minute.
