The Gunners will travel to St. Mary's Stadium for the second time in four days, this time locking horns with the Saints in the Premier League. Here's our preview of Southampton vs Arsenal.

Southampton vs Arsenal – Preview

Just days after their 1-0 defeat at Southampton in the FA Cup, Arsenal return to the St. Mary's Stadium for a highly-anticipated Premier League clash with the Saints. The Gunners will lock horns with Hasenhüttl's tricky side with the sole goal of stretching their lovely unbeaten run in the Premier League, but Tuesday's fixture will be no walk in the park.

These two clubs recently locked horns in the FA Cup, with the north London giants visiting Danny Ings and Co. on Saturday. The title holders were dumped out of the competition thanks to an unfortunate Gabriel own goal, with the likes of Pepe and Willian failing to impress.

Arteta heavily rotated his squad for that match, making as much as seven changes to his lineup, and thus came under heavy criticism after the defeat. However, the focus now shifts to the Premier League, with the north London giants keen on moving higher up the table.

They are currently 11th in the standings, boasting 27 points after 19 games. Southampton are a spot ahead with a two-point lead, meaning a win at St Mary's Stadium would see the Gunners leapfrog the Saints.

One thing working against Southampton is their form. While they do boast a two-game winning streak, the home side have recorded only one victory in their last six league fixtures. Having recently beat Liverpool, however, the Saints should not be underestimated.

Team news

Southampton: The home side have several injuries, with the likes of estergaard, Moussa Djenepo, Mohammed Salisu, and Oriol Romeu all being sidelined. Ryan Bertrand and Kyle Walker-Peters are both suspended for this fixture.

Arsenal: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains unavailable after an undisclosed personal matter ruled him out of the FA Cup defeat. Kieran Tierney will undergo a late fitness test, Ceballos is a doubt, while Pablo Mari remains sidelined.
