Bottom-ranked Championship club Wycombe will host Tottenham Hotspur on Monday in search of an upset to progress from the fourth round of the English FA Cup.

Match preview

Wycombe will receive Tottenham Hotspur at Adams Park on Monday for their FA Cup Round 4 tie. The Chairboys will be hoping to upset the bookies' predictions when they take on Jose Mourinho's men who have won all but one of the four matches they have played in 2021.

The Championship club have not had the best of fortunes since the start of the season and have not had much luck turning things around either. Since November 2020, Gareth Ainsworth's men have managed just three wins across all competitions. They have featured in 14 matches within the period, losing six and drawing the remaining five games.

Prior to the win over Cardiff City before the turn of the year, Wycombe were without a single win in eight appearances. They have since picked up one defeat and one win and still sit at the bottom of the Championship table. On Monday, they will hope to replicate the form that led them to a resounding 4-1 win over Preston in the FA Cup third round but will require a lot more effort taking the recent exploits of Tottenham Hotspur into consideration.

Jose Mourinho's side is already close to clinching its first silverware under the Portuguese manager after qualifying to the final of the Carabao Cup. The North London outfit enter Monday night's encounter off the back of a 3-1 league win over Sheffield United. This adds up to their unbeaten run that stretches back to the middle of December 2020.

Since suffering the 2-0 loss to Leicester City, Spurs have gone on a seven-game unbeaten run, winning five and drawing two. A 5-0 win over Marine FC on January 10 launched Spurs into the fourth round of the FA Cup and, as a result, will be confident of continuing their impressive run against another lower division opposition. So far, they have progressed in 20 of their previous 21 matches against teams outside the top-flight league.

Team news

Wycombe face an uphill battle against the Premier League outfit with a host of their key players out of contention with Covid-19. The Chairboys have not featured in a match since January 9th and will be forced to rotate their squad to have a formidable starting lineup to face-off with Spurs.

Meanwhile, Mourinho's side have no major injury concerns with Giovanni Lo Celso being the only player incapacitated at the moment. A number of key players are expected to be rested while the likes of Lucas Moura, Gareth Bale, and Vinicius push for starting berths.

Predicted line-ups

  • Wycombe: Allsop, McCarthy, Knight, Tafazolli, Jacobson, Wheeler, Adeniran, Bloomfield, Muskwe, Ikpeazu, Onyedinma

  • Tottenham: Hart, Doherty, Sanchez, Rodon, Davies, Sissoko, Winks, Moura, Lamela, Bale, Vinicius
