Manchester United and Liverpool will lockhorns for the second time in a week with an FA Cup fifth round place at stake.

Match preview

Manchester United will welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford for Sunday's FA Cup fourth round tie. This will be the second meeting between the two rivals in exactly a week after the pair went head to head in the Premier League last week. What was a keenly contested affair between the two league title contenders could not produce a winner as both sides ended up settling for a point in the night's goalless draw. Nevertheless, it was the Red Devils who came close to snatching the win but were denied by Alisson Becker's late heroics in post for the Merseysiders.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men have since gone on to record a 2-1 away win over Fulham, a result that saw them extend their impressive away record in the league this season. As it has been a peculiar feature of the Old Trafford outfit this term, they once again fought back to secure the maximum points, having conceded the first goal inside Craven Cottage. Against Liverpool in the upcoming cup game, the current Premier League leaders will be in their own-backyard and will look to positively add to their charge of getting close to their first silverware under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Although they have earned plaudits for their impressive away form, Old Trafford has not yet assumed its tag as being a real fortress under the Norweigian manager. Not too long ago, cross-town rivals Manchester City marched to the arena and cruised to a 2-0 win to book a date with Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the EFL Cup. With Liverpool being par with Pep Guardiola's men in terms of quality, a win over United on Sunday will surely not be an odd occurrence.

The Reds have endured torrid times for the most part of the season due to injuries to their star players but have remarkably kept their heads above water. However, recent run of matches have not favoured the Premier League's defending champions who will be searching for their second win in seven outings when they travel to Manchester United on Sunday.

A series of poor performances have resulted in Jurgen Klopp's men picking up three defeats, two draws and one win during the period. Bar the 4-1 victory they registered against Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup on January 8, they have failed to score a goal in all the four matches played between now and December 30th. With a crucial test against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League looming, a win over Manchester United will, without doubt, do more good than harm to the aspirations of the club for this season. And, with all four of the Red Devils' domestic defeats this season coming at Old Trafford, the Merseysiders will fancy their chances of sailing through to the next round.

Head to head record

Manchester United and Liverpool have been involved in a total of 205 meetings since 1894. The Red Devils edge their rivals with 80 wins under their belt and have lost only 67 times against the Merseysiders. 58 meetings between the pair - just like last weekend's clash - have resulted in draws.

Team news

Manchester United have no pressing injury concerns ahead of Sunday's encounter with Liverpool. Aside Brandon Williams and Phil Jones who are out with respective foot injuries, the Red Devils are expected to have a fully-fit squad to take on the Merseysiders on Sunday.

The story is however different for Jurgen Klopp's side who will be without the services of long-term absentees Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota, Joe Gomes and Naby Keita. The availability of skipper Jordan Henderson is also in doubt after the midfielder missed the defeat to Burnley with a back problem. Meanwhile, there is a boost in their ranks owing to the recoveries of Kostas Tsimikas and Joel Matip.
