Man Utd, Cavani make history with Fulham win

Manchester United, Edinson Cavani make history with comeback win over Fulham

January 20, 2021 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
A few records were altered as Manchester United grabbed.a comeback win over Fulham.

Manchester United have had a series of records revised with striker Edinson Cavani also landing a milestone of his own in Wednesday night's Premier League triumph over Fulham. The Red Devils went to Craven Cottage and made away with the maximum three points by fighting back to secure a 2-1 win over the hosts.

in what was a must-win game for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side owning to the fact that rivals Leicester City and Manchester City had won their respective games, the 13-time Premier League champions were dealt a blow with Fulham opening the scoring inside the first five minutes. Ademola Lookman was the man responsible for the goal, narrowly beating the an offside trap set by the visitors to slot the ball past David de Gea.

United then tried to get a response as soon as possible but were not rewarded until the 21st minute through Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan striker, with his goal, became the first player in history to score each of their first four Premier League goals for the club in away matches.

Paul Pogba, just as he did in the win over Burnley last week, emerged as the hero of the night to score the goal that sealed all the three points for the Manchester club. The Frenchman's strike, which was executed with his left-foot, was the sixth Premier League goals he had scored from outside the penalty area - the joint most for the club alongside Marcus Rashford since he returned in 2016.

Meanwhile, the final outcome of the game meant that Manchester United have now equalled their club record of 17 away games without losing a game. The Red Devils are now unbeaten away from home in over a year. They have won seven Premier League games having gone behind this season. Only Newcastle in the 2001/2002 season and the Red Devils themselves in the 2012/2013 season, have managed more in a single campaign.

In the grand scheme of things, Manchester United have also won 94 Premier League matches after conceding the first goal. No club in the history of the English top-flight league has ever managed more.
