Preview: Augsburg vs Bayern Munich
After a hard-fought win over a determined Freiburg side, Bayern will now turn their attention towards taking on Augsburg, who, after a solid start to the season, have hit a terrible patch and have thus slid back down the table. Indeed, the hosts, who have lost three of their last five Bundesliga fixtures, can't even rely on home comforts as they have also failed to win their last five on home turf.
Bayern, however, had to really work for their 2-1 win over Freiburg, which again saw them give up a lead as their opponents were able to equalize, and were it not for a late goal by Thomas Muller, Hansi Flick's men would have again dropped valuable points. As thing stand, Bayern are four points clear from the chasing pack with a game in hand, so a win here would help die Roten put some breathing room between themselves and teams like Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig.
Augsburg, meanwhile, were on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline against Werder Bremen last weekend, which is highly discouraging considering that both goals were conceded in the last ten minutes of regulation time. That being said, Heiko Herrlich's side did manage to earn a two-all draw against Bayern last season in this same fixture, and with the Bavarian titans leaking goals at an alarming rate, the minnows may fancy their chances at nicking a goal.
Team news: Augsburg vs Bayern Munich
Augsburg: Raphael Framberger, Fredrik Jensen, Noah Joel Sarenren Bazee, Jan Moravek, and Iago are all still on the treatment table.
Bayern Munich: Serge Gnabry is unlikely to feature here after being taken off during the Freiburg match due to injury. In addition, Flick could opt to leave both Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich on the bench given that both players have only just returned from long-term injury lay-offs. Finally, young defender Tanguy Nianzou remains out while Joshua Zirkzee is still serving a multi-match ban.
