Fulham vs Manchester United on January 20, 2021: preview, team news, broadcast information

January 19, 2021 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Manchester United will hope to add to their impressive away form when they travel to Craven Cottage on Wednesday.

Match preview

Fulham will welcome Manchester United to Craven Cottage on Wednesday as they look to return to winning ways. The Cottagers suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday, having played the majority of the game with 10 men. Since gaining promotion to the Premier League this season, Scott Parker's men have somewhat experienced a torrid time as they currently sit in 18th position on the table with just 12 points.

After 17 matches, Fulham have managed just two wins and six draws, losing the remaining nine games. Amid that, there have been a number of impressive performances by the London club as they have successfully taken points from Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton.

Against Manchester United, they will hope to make a big statement by getting their second home win of the season, having registered their first against West Brom in November 2020. However, their recent form does not give much promise for an upset to happen as they have managed just one win in their last eight outings across all competitions.

For United, the objective is to extend their impressive away run when they grace the Craven Cottage on Wednesday. The Red Devils are currently unbeaten in 16 Premier League games and could match a club record of 17 away games without a defeat should they pick up at least a point against Fulham. The club's remarkable form has seen them occupying first place on the league table after 18 appearances, although they could be momentarily demoted to second should Leicester City win their game against Chelsea on Tuesday.

They go into the midweek's encounter off the back of a 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, a game whose result many believe should have gone in favor of the Old Trafford outfit. Manager of the club Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players were subsequently left to rue the missed chances but have since revealed their eagerness to make amends in the upcoming game.

Away from home, they have recorded seven wins and two draws from the nine matches they have featured in so far. The fact that Fulham has also been unable to manage a win over them in over 10 years serves as a good omen for the 13-time Premier League champions who are eyeing their first title in over seven years.

Team news

Fulham will be without skipper Tom Cairney, Mario Lemina and Terence Kongolo when they welcome Manchester United to the Craven Cottage on Wednesday. Antonee Robinson is also suspended for the encounter after picking up a red card in the recent defeat to Chelsea.

Relatively, Manchester United will be without Brandon Williams and Phil Jones when they travel to Craven Cottage on Wednesday. The Reds have no players suspended for the encounter.

Predicted starting XI

  • Fulham: Areola; Aina, Andersen, Adarabioyo; Tete, Cordova-Reid, Reed, Anguissa, Bryan; Cavaleiro, Lookman

  • Manchester United: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire, Telles; Matic, Pogba; Greenwood, Fernandes, Martial; Cavani
