The Argentine ace saw a red card for the first time in his career, but some were not satisfied by the suspension handed to Barcelona's main man.

The Spanish Football Federation has come up with a ruling in regards to Lionel Messi's red card against Athletic Club last Sunday, and let's just say that neither side was satisfied with the outcome.

On one side, we had Cristiano Ronaldo supporters who asked the player to be handed a heavier ban. On the other, Messi and Barcelona fans urged La Liga to grant him a pardon, since they believed that Athletic's rough defending skills caused Messi's rant and eventual red card.

Today, none of these sides had their wishes granted, as Messi was handed a two-match ban by La Liga authorities, which prompted a variety of reactions from fans and experts. As things stand, Messi will only miss the Copa del Rey match against Cornellá and the league tie against Elche, both set to be played away from Barcelona's Camp Nou. Curiously, Messi's return to the pitch could take place against none other than Athletic Club.

Even if the punishment for Messi's action was considered as "soft" by many, Barcelona's front office has issued a statement where they have revealed that they will be appealing the ban. Now, the league must decide if they hand Messi an even softer punishment for such a flagrant foul.
