FA Women’s Super League Matchday 11 fixtures dwindled as Sunday edged closer, leaving just Sunday’s 9 a.m. meeting between Reading and Chelsea to be played. All other matches were suspended due to the increase of positive COVID-19 tests within multiple squads.

As expected, COVID-19 cases are soaring across the w following the holiday season and it has directly affected the FA Women's Super League in its first week back from break. Five of six Matchday 11 fixtures are now canceled as a result, leaving Reading's home game against Chelsea as the last game standing this weekend.

FA WSL teams COVID-19 reports

Arsenal - Did not meet the minimum squad quota of 14 players due to positive COVID-19 test results

Birmingham City – Did not meet the minimum squad quota of 14 players due to injuries

Brighton and Hove Albion – Two positive COVID-19 test results

Everton – Five positive COVID-19 tests results and six injuries, leaving the squad with only 13 players

Manchester City – Did not meet the minimum squad quota of 14 players due to positive COVID-19 test results

Reading vs. Chelsea preview

The lone game between Reading and Chelsea is set to begin on Sunday at 9 a.m. ET in Madejski Stadium. The match will be streamed internationally through the FA Player and ATA Football. Also, American WSL fans can catch all the action through the NBC Sports app or Fanatiz USA.

Hosts Reading enter the match after closing 2020 on a good note with a 3-1 away win at Brighton. With that win, the Royals snapped a six-game win-less streak made up of four draws and two losses. Two of those draws came against Manchester City and Everton, two sides that have shown to be strong this season. Manager Kelly Chambers will hope to get a result against Chelsea, something that they accomplished last season in the FA WSL Cup group stages when they defeated Chelsea in penalties.

On the other hand, Chelsea is in a prime position to go after back-to-back FA Women's Super League titles despite currently sitting in third place. The Blues' position on the table does not reflect their performances this season, having two games in hand and only six points away from league-leaders Manchester United. As a result, Emma Hayes knows just how important this game is for Chelsea. The Blues won 3-1 last time out against Reading in the WSL. Chelsea might seem stronger than ever, but given the factors surrounding this season – the COVID-19 pandemic – things are more unpredictable than ever before.
