With four wins from their last five games, Roma will be looking to continue their push towards the top of the table as they prepare to take on Inter in a tantalizing clash on Sunday. The Giallorossi presently sit in third place and have had a very solid campaign this season. After being handed a 3-0 administrative loss to minnows Hellas Verona due to a registration error with one of their players, Roma have since recovered, and notably were the first side to nick points off a high-flying AC Milan this season by battling to a three-all stalemate.
The Lupi also picked up a vital point against reigning champions Juventus, but have still had their struggles, notably suffering heavy losses to Napoli, and even more disappointingly, Atalanta. That being said, since their embarrassing 4-1 reversal to the Bergamo-based club, Roma have won their last three games, picking up nine vital points against Cagliari, Sampdoria, and most recently, Crotone, which has helped them solidify their grip on third spot in the league table.
Next up for the hosts will be a derby battle against city rivals Lazio, but Paulo Fonesca naturally will want his men to be firmly focused on the visit of the Nerazzurri coming up this weekend. The visitors come into this match having succumbed to a surprise 2-1 defeat to mid-table side Sampdoria, which ended an eight-game winning streak for Antonio Conte's troops in the league.
It also marked the first loss for the Nerazzurri since being defeated by Milan in the Derby della Madonnina back in October. Moreover, with Milan suffering their first loss of the season to Juventus, Inter's defeat to Sampdoria thus denied them a chance to move ahead of the Diavolo in the league standings, but given that both sides lost their respective fixtures, things have remained the same: only one point separates the two.
With that in mind, Inter will naturally need to shake off that bad result - and fast. Immediately after their clash with Roma, the Nerazzurri will face another difficult match, with Juventus and a highly-anticipated Derby d'Italia coming up next weekend.
Roma: The hosts still have quite a few injuries to contend with ahead of this match. Pedro, Javier Pastore, Davide Santon, Antonio Mirante, Federico Fazio, and Niccolo Zaniolo are among the players who will not be available for selection on Sunday.
Inter: Danilo D'Ambrosio, Andrea Pinamomti, and Matias Vecino are still on the treatment table for the visitors, but both Arturo Vidal and Romelu Lukaku are expected to feature in the starting XI for this match.
